InMotion: Engineering the Future of Le Mans
At Le Mans, every second matters. A pit stop that takes minutes can decide the outcome of a race. For electric racing, however, charging has traditionally been one of the biggest obstacles. InMotion, the student team from Eindhoven University of Technology and Fontys, is trying to change that.
Their ambition is remarkably simple to describe — and extraordinarily difficult to achieve: make charging an electric race car as quick and convenient as refuelling a conventional car, and ultimately take that technology to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
InMotion calls the concept Electric Refueling. Rather than accepting long charging times as an inherent limitation of electric mobility, the team is developing its own battery technology and advanced cell-level cooling systems to push charging speeds far beyond conventional standards. In 2023, the Revolution demonstrated a charging time of just under four minutes.
The Revolution is not simply a student-built race car. It is a rolling technology demonstrator — an LMP3-based endurance racer designed to expose the battery, cooling system and electrical architecture to the demands of high-performance motorsport. In 2026, InMotion reached another important milestone with Stop Charge Go!,demonstrating the concept of racing, charging and returning to the track.
Behind the technology is a constantly changing group of young engineers, designers and specialists. Students arrive with an idea of what they can contribute and leave with experience that cannot be taught entirely in a lecture hall: working under pressure, solving unexpected problems and turning ambitious engineering concepts into something that actually moves.
That human element is what makes InMotion particularly compelling to document. The car may be the most visible result, but the real story is the people developing it — one component, one test and one challenge at a time.
The destination is clear: Le Mans.
And InMotion wants to arrive there with more than an electric race car. It wants to demonstrate that charging can become part of the performance equation — and that the future of electric mobility can be fast, competitive and exciting.
